Know What You Need - Packaging Machinery for Any Production Level
Packaging machinery probably does not fall in to the general knowledge category for a majority of people, even among some packagers. While companies focus on producing product for their own consumers, they often rely on packaging machinery manufacturers to guide their choices when it comes to the best solutions for automation. In order to know what packaging machinery is needed, a packager really only needs to know what they want to accomplish. Packaging machinery, from rinsers and fillers to capping machines and more, can be built to run semi-automatically or automatically, to meet the needs of the specific project at hand. Deciding on a level of automation will depend on several factors.
First, the production level, both the current level and the level that is expected in the future, will factor in to the machinery decision. If running a few hundred bottles a day, semi-automatic equipment should suffice. But if the packager expects that number to grow to the thousands in the near future, fully automatic equipment might be a good option. Semi-automatic equipment can also be built on fully automatic frames to allow for a future upgrade to full automation.
A packager will also want to consider how much manual labor they would like to use. Semi-automatic machinery will usually require at least a single operator for each machine, though one operator may move from rinsing equipment to bottle fillers to the capping machinery as well. Keeping in mind that semi-automatic machinery will only produce as fast as the operator running them, packagers can also choose which functions to automate and which to allow the operators to run. For example, if a packager is preparing product by hand and finds that it takes only a couple hours to fill bottles, but most of a day to cap them, that packagers may opt to automate the capping process while continuing to use manual labor for the fill.
Finally, personal preference will also play a part in the best solution for any packaging project. In many cases, a packaging process can be completed using semi-automatic or automatic equipment. The amount of time and money that a packager wants to spend on any given task, along with the labor that packager wants to use, will all come in to play. These are only a few of the factors that may come in to play when looking for the best solution for any project. There are many others factors, such as budget, space, time restraints and more, that can affect the ideal set up for packaging.
