Packaging Machinery Options for Start Up Companies
While many of the projects at Liquid Packaging Solutions stem from fully automatic, integrated and turnkey packaging lines, not every packager turns out tens of thousands of product every day. This is especially true of start up companies, those that may have had success with a product on a local or regional basis are just beginning their journey to reach as many shelves as possible! Packaging equipment is simply not one size fits all, which is why almost all equipment will be custom designed for the individual project. Today we look at some of the options for packagers with lower production demand or just starting their business.
TABLETOP PACKAGING EQUIPMENT
Tabletop packaging equipment provides an ideal solution for start up companies with limited space in which to prepare their products. As the name suggests, these machines can be set on a tabletop to perform packaging functions such as filling, capping and labeling bottles. Other machines, such as bottle rinsers, can be manufactured on a small frame to sit next to the table and create a packaging system with a very small footprint.
These machines will all require operator assistance to perform their tasks. For example, the filling machine will require the operator to place bottles under the nozzles, activate the fill cycle and remove the bottles once filled. A single operator may move bottles through multiple machines, or different operators may perform one or more packaging tasks, depending on production demand.
SEMI-AUTOMATIC FULL FRAME PACKAGING EQUIPMENT
Another alternative for start up companies is semi-automatic packaging equipment built on a full frame. These machines, while taking up more space than tabletop equipment, will function in much the same manner, meaning the operator of the machines will be involved each cycle. However, by being built on a full frame, different levels of automation are available upon initial installation and in the future. For example, a power conveyor may connect semi-automatic filling machinery and capping equipment, making the transfer much easier. As production demand increases, upgrades can allow for more and more automation, in some cases allowing for a fully automatic system.
AUTOMATIC PACKAGING MACHINERY
While not the norm, some start up companies may begin with automatic packaging machinery. In many cases, rather than a fully automatic line, a single machine will be used to speed up one aspect of the packaging process. Where one of hand filling bottles, hand tightening caps or applying labels by hand takes more time than the others, the most time consuming may be automated while the others continue to be done without automation. This also allows additional automatic machinery to be added as production increases or budget allows. The addition of a power conveyor system in the future can tie the equipment together and create a turnkey solution.
Each new packaging project will use different methods and machinery to create the most efficient system, whether including fully automatic equipment or simple tabletop machines.
