ROPP Cappers Becoming More & More Popular for Sealing Bottles

Unless you have worked with them as a packager, the term ROPP capper probably doesn't mean a whole lot to you. And though you've undoubtedly come across the cap at some point, whether on a product you use or just passed it on a shelf at the grocery store, outside of the packaging world, the ROPP capper is simply not a part of common knowledge. Part of the reason this is true is that the ROPP cap is not used on as many products as the typical screw on cap that can be seen on products ranging from popular soft drinks to shampoo, soap pumps, window cleaner triggers sprayers and many other items. With the growth in popularity of certain products and industries, such as distilled spirits, olive oils and wine, the ROPP capper is becoming more and more popular! The ROPP capping machine is a unique capping machine that works with blank aluminum shells. Once the shell is placed on the bottle, the ROPP capper itself creates the grooves and threads that effectively seal the container while also providing tamper evidence for the packager and consumer. A single head semi-automatic ROPP capper can be used for facilities or projects that have lower to medium production demands. This machine requires the operator to hand place the aluminum blank, slide the bottle in place and press a button to activate the sealing process. While using an operator means the machine will only produce seals as fast as the operator can perform, the machine also ensures consistency and reliability with each container sealed.

Automatic ROPP cappers can work as single head or multi-head machines, allowing for increased speed while doing away with many of the operator tasks required of the semi-automatic capper. Blanks will be delivered by a sorter to a chute, which will automatically place the cap on to the bottle. An indexing system will move bottles in to place under the head or heads of the automatic machine, which will then descend to create the grooves and threads and seal the bottle. While an operator of a packaging line may need to occasionally replenish bulk blanks, the automatic machine removes the need for an operator to assist with every capping or sealing cycle.

In some cases, the heads of the ROPP machine can also be changed out with a head that will tighten screw-on type caps as well, making the capping machine a versatile solution for projects that include not just ROPP blanks but twist off closures as well.
