What's in a Name? - Liquid Packaging Solutions

The term liquid packaging solutions can bring to mind a wide variety of different things, from packaging material to product itself to the machinery used to prepare the product for the shelf.  At LPS, we build the equipment that prepares the products for the shelf, but to properly execute our portion of providing a solution, we must also understand the product, packaging and other components of the packaging process.  In other words, our solutions are reached by understanding what a customer needs based on their product, package, process, budget and any other number of factors.

Though liquid packaging seems like a fairly well defined term, these two words actually cover a range of different products, with both high and low viscosities, including items that may not initially be thought of as liquid.  Of course, water and other beverages are easily identifiable as the type of products that would fit into the liquid packaging definition.  But what about molten products such as candles?  Candles can be packaged by heating the product until it becomes a liquid, then giving it time to cool before sealing, labeling or otherwise continuing the packaging process.  High viscosity products such as honey, jellies, jams and pastes may not immediately bring the term liquid to mind, yet each of these items can be packaged using the rinsing machines, liquid fillers, bottle cappers and other equipment manufactured at LPS.  The range of products move from low viscosity, free-flowing liquids to high viscosity, thick products.  In fact, many items manufactured by LPS, such as power conveyors and capping machines, can be used for solid products as well!

Now back to the second part of the name - solutions.  As touched on above, our solutions stem from learning as much about the company, product, production and other factors as is possible.  Packaging equipment can be manufactured to fill, cap, or otherwise package a few hundred bottles a week or thousands of bottles per day.  Manual and semi-automatic equipment can be a cost-efficient way to add both speed and consistency to a packaging process, while automatic filling machines, capping machines and other equipment can help reach daily outputs when demand is high.  The decision as to the level of automation will depend not only on production demand, but on the actual desire of the customer as well.  The number of employees, the budget and the shifts run per day can all factor in to finding the right solution.

The industry itself can also have an effect on the solutions offered to a specific customer.  For example, pharmaceutical companies are normally producing products that will be ingested or injected into the body.  These companies will not only desire, but often require, a sanitary packaging process to protect against contamination.  For this reason, a bottle rinser or washer is more likely to be found on such packaging systems, though they may be used in any industry.

Our end goal is to become a partner with our customers, in as much as our success depends on their success.  Finding the best solution for any packaging project means becoming our customer by understanding the production process and all of the components associated with it.  If you have a current packaging project, we encourage you to call our Packaging Specialists to take advantage of a free consultation and experience true liquid packaging solutions.
